Ovipositional behaviour and larval performance of <i>Trichoferus campestris</i> (Faldermann) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) on cut branches of four North American tree species

Velvet longhorned beetle Trichoferus campestris (Faldermann) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is native to Asia. It reported be polyphagous in its range, but hosts have not been screened introduced range the United States. We conducted choice and no-choice host experiments. For assays, gravid T. oviposited freely on cut branches of four tree species: Juglans nigra, Malus domestica, Acer saccharum, Pinus strobus. investigated oviposition between apple with without cankers. Overall, development occur more readily J. nigra M. domestica than A. saccharum or P. insect cankered uncankered wood. Cold exposure during an overwintering period benefitted adults. insect's high degree polyphagy ability reproduce dry wood has likely facilitated establishment multiple locales around world.
